The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix is the seventh generation of the Kijang family in Indonesia. Unlike previous generations, the Zenix marks a major revolution, as it now uses the TNGA platform, features front-wheel drive (FWD), and offers a hybrid engine option. This article will discuss the most popular variant, the Innova Zenix Type V.
- Latest Variants and Prices for the Toyota Innova Zenix
The Innova Zenix is available in three main trim levels: G, V, and Q.

- Engine Specifications: Gasoline vs. Hybrid—Which Is More Fuel-Efficient?
The Innova Zenix no longer offers a 2.4L diesel engine like the Reborn. Instead, Toyota offers two much more modern 2000cc gasoline engine options.
A. M20A-FKS Gasoline Engine
This is the Dynamic Force Engine. With a displacement of 1987cc and a 4-cylinder DOHC Dual VVT-i configuration, this engine is capable of producing 174 PS at 6600 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 4500–4900 rpm. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a very smooth 10-speed virtual CVT transmission. Combined-cycle fuel economy is approximately 13–14 km/liter, depending on driving style.
B. M20A-FXS Hybrid Engine
This is the Zenix’s flagship model. Its gasoline engine produces 152 PS and 187 Nm, paired with an electric motor delivering 113 PS and 206 Nm of torque. The combined output reaches 186 PS. The vehicle uses a 1.3 kWh Ni-MH battery located under the front seat, so it doesn’t take up any cabin space.
Fuel consumption for hybrid models is claimed to reach 19–21 km/liter in city driving. In addition to being fuel-efficient, they are much quieter when driving in EV mode, especially in traffic. Annual taxes for hybrids are also lower thanks to government incentives.
- Exterior: From an MPV to a Premium Crossover
The Zenix Type V’s design is much more rugged than the Reborn’s. From the front, it features the New Crossover Front Look with a large grille and sharp LED headlights. Its taillights are even said to resemble those of the Toyota Land Cruiser, with a modern horizontal design.
Type V has already received:
- 17-inch Two-Tone Alloy Wheels
- LED Headlamps with Daytime Running Lights
- Electric side mirrors with turn signals
- Disc brakes on all four wheels for maximum safety
- Shark Fin Antenna and Rear Spoiler
While the G model still uses 16-inch rims, the V model looks much more proportionate.
- Interior and Comfort Features
Step inside, and you’ll immediately feel the luxurious ambiance. The Zenix dashboard features soft-touch materials and a 10-inch head unit that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Behind the steering wheel is a 7-inch TFT MID that displays hybrid information, fuel consumption, and Toyota Safety Sense features.
For the family’s comfort:
- 7-Passenger Configuration : 2-3-2 seating layout for the gasoline model and 2-2-3 with a captain’s seat and ottoman in the V Hybrid model.
- Dual-Blower Air Conditioning : Covers up to the third row with digital controls.
- Rear-Seat Entertainment : The V Hybrid model comes standard with a 10-inch Dual RSE system in the rear, allowing you to play different videos on the left and right screens via HDMI, USB, and Miracast. It includes a remote control and infrared headphones.
The extra-large panoramic retractable roof is available only on the top-of-the-line Q trim. So the V trim does not come with a sunroof.
- Driving Experience and Safety
Since it features front-wheel drive (FWD) and uses the TNGA platform, the Zenix offers a much more comfortable and stable ride than the Reborn, which tends to sway. The suspension is soft, doesn’t bounce, and is well-insulated against noise. The driving position is more ergonomic.
For safety, the V Hybrid model comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes:
- Pre-Collision System (PCS): Automatically applies the brakes if a front collision is imminent.
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC): Automatically maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
- Lane Departure Alert & Lane Tracing Assist: Alerts you if you drift out of your lane.
- Automatic High Beam (AHB): Automatic high beams.
This is a feature that has never been available in any previous generation of the Innova.
- Competitors of the Innova Zenix
In the 470–540 million price range, the Zenix’s closest competitors are the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, the Hyundai Stargazer Prime, and the Wuling Cortez. However, in terms of power, hybrid features, and brand value, the Zenix is still far superior. The Xpander has only a 1,500cc engine, while the Zenix is a 2,000cc hybrid. - Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages of the Zenix Type V: - The most spacious cabin in its class and extremely quiet.
- Fuel-efficient, especially the hybrid models.
- The TSS safety features are very comprehensive.
- Toyota’s high resale value.
- Easy service at all official Toyota Indonesia dealerships.
Disadvantages of the Zenix Type V :
- There are no longer any diesel engine options.
- The panoramic sunroof is available only on the Q trim.
- The price of the hybrid model is nearly 70 million higher than that the gasoline model.
- The FWD model isn’t as capable on extreme inclines as the RWD Reborn.
Conclusion
The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Type V is the most sensible choice for Indonesian families today. If your budget is around 470 million, go for the V Gasoline. However, if you prioritize long-term fuel efficiency and the extra comfort of captain’s seats, the V Hybrid, priced at 541 million, is the best investment.
This car is ideal for daily use in large cities like Medan, for out-of-town trips, and as a company vehicle that prioritizes comfort.
